Homeschooling Plans
For 2006-2007
This is still a work in progress but I will at least post the general ideas for the year that I have gathered both on my own and from other homeschoolers.
Learning Wall- Lvbirders (link is in blogroll since I'm unable to link in posts for some reason) is the one I got this idea from. It is such a wonderful way to learn many new things each week. We will be starting our own Weekly Learning Wall with our new school year.
Copywork- I don't remember who I picked this one up from (I think possibly Charlotte Mason) but I feel that it's a wonderful way to help the kids learn punctuation and proper writing skills. Who knows, they might actually remember what they write! lol
Notebooks- This idea came from Theresa at Lapaz Farm (link also in blogroll). Her family has made some awesome books about Dragons, Fairies, Pirates, and so on. I'm hoping my kids will be able to put as much love and effort into these notebooks as Theresa and her family did.
Nature Sketchbooks- I've decided that we will start taking more nature walks this year. The reason is because I want the kids to learn the wonders of nature and feel the peace it brings. I plan on doing a sketchbook with them so that we all can share and enjoy this.
Artist Trading Cards- Again, I can't remember who I got this from (I apologize) but thought it was a great idea (you can Google it to learn more- again, links aren't working for me). Usually I guess you make these trading cards using the medium of your choice and then trade them with other people. We're just going to make them and collect them for ourselves though. My hope is to have each of the kids fill up some pages in a binder with their handmade trading cards so that they can see how much they change and grow over the next few years.
Book of Centuries- This is a Charlotte Mason idea that I saw and thought was great. We're going to use paper and binders though instead of printing off the pages the Simply Charlotte Mason website has (can't afford the printer ink). I think this will help us make History go more smoothly this year.
Tea Time- Again, another wonderful idea I am "borrowing" from someone. I'm not sure if this is going to be a daily or weekly thing. Big B of course thinks this idea stinks but the younger two like it. Lil Man especially is excited. So I'm going to try to find poetry and books that might appeal to all three kids. Wish me luck on that one!
Quiet Time- This is mostly for the little guy but we've tried it a few times and the older two appreciate it as well. Everyday we take an hour with no computer, no TV, and no phone. I try to get the little guy to either take a nap or just mellow out and the older two can go in their rooms to write, read, or nap themselves. Big B thinks it's funny and will joke about being back in preschool but I think they like that we now take a little time each day to slow down and try to destress some.
Other than that we'll be covering the usual subjects, the kids will continue volunteering (and learning) at the Wildlife Rescue, Library weekly, playgroups, and classes here and there. Alot of these ideas can be found at this place which I'm finding to be a very useful resource... BraveWriter
