The Cast:

Jo- I’m the mom and star of the show of course (just let me pretend okay?). I’m a homeschooling mom to my three heathens, wife to the hubby guy, published poet (had nothing to do with poetry.com either so shoosh), freelance writer (I write for a few websites and hope to be in print soon), two time cancer survivor (while still having one of the buggers renting space in my body), MEN2a advocate, plus I have Fibromyalgia, CMP, Peripheral Neuropathy, Raynaud’s Syndrome, Adrenal Insufficiency (due to no adrenal glands), and blah blah blah. I only mention these things so other mothers will know that yes, you CAN do this!

All that AND a sense of humor too. I rule! ;) I am also very proud of my amazing two cancer buttkicking children.

Hubby- Yes, I have one but with working graveyard shift and attending college full time he doesn’t get to be around much. We celebrated our ninth anniversary on May 6, 2009 and while it’s been a rough road at times, it has definitely been worth it. Hubby works in avionics (ex-Air Force) and helps keep the Air Force’s pilots in the air. He will be the first to tell you he doesn’t agree with homeschooling all of the time but when it comes down to it he is my biggest champion and I love him for it.

Big B- My oldest son who turned 18 years old this year. He started homeschooling in November of 2005 so every day was a learning experience for us as he transitioned from public to homeschool. His schooling journey with us ended in May of this year and he is now a college student at the University of New Mexico! I am so proud of him and can’t wait to see what my “little” boy ends up becoming when he grows up. As of now though he wants to get his degree in Earth Sciences Engineering which is so awesome. B also plays guitar and likes to hang out with his girlfriend whenever he gets a chance.

Sissy- My middle child and only girl. She is 15 years old this year (yeah that sound you hear IS me crying) and began her homeschooling journey in March 2005. Our adventure together was often rough but I am so thankful for the time I got to spend with her during it. Now though she is in a brand new charter high school we have here and honestly loving it. So far she is learning Spanish, loves being the fastest girl in PE, and really enjoys all the friends she has made. While I miss her at home I know she is where she really needs to be right now and I’m excited for her.

MonkeyBoy- This is my 7 year old little tornado of terror and love. To me, MonkeyBoy is the perfect homeschooling child. He is relaxed about things, smart, inquisitive, a virtual learning sponge, and very opinionated. As my only child left homeschooling, I have to admit that I am having a fantastic time this year! MB loves doing crafts, going to his Homeschool Science Class, knows everything about dinosaurs, thinks Animal Planet is THE only channel worth watching, and enjoys outsmarting his two much older siblings which hilariously enough happens often.

MonkeyBoy was officially diagnosed with ADHD (emphasis on the H) almost two years ago but we’ve known he was uber-hyper from the time he was about 2. At this point our decision is not to medicate him for his ADHD and homeschool him so he doesn’t have to go through the same hell and humiliation his sister did in public school (hence why we began homeschooling her in the first place).

At first glance, we are a family who has three people with a rare cancer causing disorder (two kids who have already had surgery to remove cancer once and a mom who is missing several organs, and is living with incurable cancer). Daily we are just the same as everyone else (a little more scarred is all) and just try to live life to the fullest we can. Making memories is a big part of our life and probably why I post on this blog about not only strictly homeschool related things but the fun activities we do as well.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy.
